Jam Sutton’s (b. 1986) work explores the intersection of human form and digital technology, delving into how the human body is transformed and reimagined in virtual space.

Using a combination of 3D scanning, virtual reality, and digital sculpting, Sutton examines the tension between physicality and its digital counterpart. His process begins with capturing three-dimensional data of his subjects, which he manipulates into digital sculptures. These processes distort the human figure, creating fluid, ambiguous shapes that reference the familiar and the unfamiliar.

Sutton’s fascination with digital transformation is rooted in his long-standing interest in how humans exist within and alongside virtual spaces. He began exploring this concept through various digital mediums, allowing his work to evolve as technology advanced. His latest exhibition, The Space Between, pushes these ideas further, examining the delicate balance between machine precision and digital degradation. By manipulating human figures and combining them with new forms, Sutton poses fundamental questions about the boundaries of 'digital skin' materiality and how we perceive space in both the physical and digital realms.

Sutton’s work reflects a continuous dialogue between the tactile gestures of physical touch and the precision of digital tools. His vibrant, textural composite pieces echo the experience of navigating both digital and physical environments, marked by the familiar glow of screens and grid lines reminiscent of design software. Each artwork invites the viewer to reflect on the ever-evolving relationship between humanity and the digital world.
